Textile Artist

Sarah K Jackson first studied languages and only later, in 2009, turned her attention to textile art; she went on to complete a City & Guild’s qualification in creative techniques. Sarah specialises in transforming discarded or aged fabrics, threads and precious items into original works of 2D and 3D art. She particularly enjoys combining print, collage and stitch to highlight the clarity of the line and produce subtle and minimalistic, yet evocative, works.

Her inspiration often comes from designs of the 1920s to 1950s – particularly the work of Enid Marx, Kathleen Mann and Natalia Goncharova – as well as vintage book illustrations. Sarah has a special affinity for Russian design as she studied the language and literature at university; and both lived and travelled there extensively during the 1990s.

Sarah is a member of York Textile Artists, the mixed media group Diverse Threads and York Art Workers’ Association.
